Renaissance / Renesansas
- Having reached Lithuania in
the beginning of the 16th century, the Renaissance had a
significant impact on Lithuanian literature, architecture and
sculpture.

Baroque / Barokas
- In Lithuania the Baroque
style flourished from the end of the 16th century until the very
end of the 18th century. It was during this period that the
majority of the artworks and structures significant in a European
context were created.

Treasury of Vilnius Cathedral / Vilniaus

- The remaining contents of the
Treasury valuable articles which miraculously managed to survive
the countrys turbulent history are of historical significance
for the Lithuanian state, the Catholic Church, famous personalities
and masters as well as all of Lithuanian society.

Miraculous Paintings / Nuostabi sakralinė

- In the 17th and 18th
centuries, many holy places of worship came into being. These
locations were found throughout the entire country. Among the most
important relics marking these places are the miraculous paintings.

Lithuanian Cross Crafting / Lietuvių
liaudies meistrų sukurti kryžiai
- Folk sculptures depicting
Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mother Mary, roadside crosses and
shrine-type poles are a unique manifestation of Lithuanian culture.
In 2001, Lithuanian cross crafting was inscribed into the UNESCO
list of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of
Humanity.

- From the late 19th to the
early 20th century, Lithuanian art, and the Lithuanian nation as a
whole, underwent a national revival. The first art exhibitions were
prepared and the Lithuanian Art Association was formed.

Vilnius Old Town / Vilnius senas miestas

Vilnius
boasts a number of impressive architectural styles Gothic,
Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism. The citys medieval layout
and natural surroundings also entice visitors. It is for these
reasons that Vilnius Old Town was inscribed into the list of UNESCO
World Heritage sites in 1994.

20th Century Lithuanian Art / 20 amžiaus

- A distinct modernism school
took hold in interwar Lithuania. Despite restraints during the
Soviet occupation, pre-World War II art traditions continued. Since
the restoration of independence, Lithuanian artists have actively
participated in the international art arena.

Lithuanias Millennium
/ Lietuvos tūkstantmetis
- In 2009, Lithuania shall be
celebrating its millennial anniversary. The Lithuanian Art Museum
is directly involved in some of the most important projects
dedicated to this historic event: the restoration of the Palace of
the Grand Dukes of Lithuania and the reconstruction of the National
Art Gallery.
